| __________As a transfer do I get to live on campus or do I have to find housing? Although UCSD is a great school, at this moment there is no room for transfers to live on campus. We are fighting hard to get some rooms for transfers but as of now you need to find a place off campus. The web site listed below can also help you locate roommates that have the same major as you. This web site will help you find a nice place and maybe even a roommate: Off Campus Housing |
| __________What does the ACTA do? The All Campus Transfer Association (ACTA) does many things. First it reaches out to all transfer students regardless of what college. The ACTA allows many transfers to network with others to form friendships, study groups or even to help find roommates. Throughout the year we put on events to reach out to the student body and to get transfer students involved. |
| __________How does Triton Plus work, and is it recommended for transfers? Triton Plus is a form of debit card used on campus, when you receive your ID card you can set up a Triton Plus account. You can pay for a lot of things with your ID card on campus and you don't have to carry cash with you at all. From food to books it is accepted almost everywhere on campus and I recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to fool with cash all the time. |
| __________Parking pro's and con's? Well for three quarters a parking pass will run you about $500.00, and this pass does not guarantee that you will get a spot at all. There are many lots but there are many more students. North, Regents or East parking lots usually have some spots and there are UCSD busses to take you closer to campus from these lots. If you live close to campus use the complementary free bus pass or take the cityshuttle (a UCSD bus) and save $500. I recommend that if you do buy a pass and have to park far away that you invest in a skateboard, longboard or a bike. These make the campus a little easier to navigate and give you exercise at the same time. Also available is a parking permit for MWF or TThF for about $100, although it only works those days so if you need to be on campus other days it's not recommended. The UCSD parking web site is pretty good with bus routes and schedules: Parking

__________Where can I go to meet people? The main key is to talk to people. It seems that students at UCSD are afraid to talk to each other. Some say it stems from the SARS scare. Others speculate the cause may be more central, like UCSD people are boring. While I'm sure some of these are true, the real problem is that people get scared. So shake it up, talk to the person next to you in class. Get involved with some club at school. Come stop by the ACTA office, we're always around because we have no other friends because no one talks to us (only kidding). Just make at least one friend who has at least one other friend and pretty soon you'll have a good network of people to call your friends. Also, go out and hit up the locals. It's hard for a lot of transfers because they don't know the area. Find someone who's lived in San Diego all their life and doesn't appreciate it. PB is always a good place for fun or Rock Bottom in La Jolla has good cheap beer. |

__________Which schools accept IGETC? Marshall, Warren and Muir accept IGETC as is. Revelle accepts IGETC with a little bit extra. ERC doesn't accept IGETC. All the info and the real deal is on the IGETC page on this site: IGETC info |
______What's the deal with drinking on campus? Porter's Pub and Round Table serve beer to 21+ students with valid ID. Anywhere else on campus, drinking is prohibited and not suggested. You have to pay a fine and talk to a peer counselor if caught. Have fun, but be responsible. |
